Sarm LGD-4033: What You Should Know About Ligandrol

In our article series on Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators, abbreviated SARMs, we have already dealt with the first representatives Ostarin, Andarin and YK-11. Before that we already took the basics of the legal situation, the history and the mode of action of this substance group. In our contribution today, it will go to the sarm ligandrol, also known by the abbreviation sarm LGD-4033.

What is Sarm LGD-4033?

Sarm LGD-4033 is an orally available, non-steroidal SARM developed by the pharmaceutical company Ligand Pharmaceuticals. This substance binds very strongly to the androgen receptors of the skeletal muscle and the bones, whereby appropriate effects are to be expected in these tissues.

Sarm LGD, also known as Anabolicum, has been undergoing Phase I clinical trials testing different doses in healthy people [1]. According to the National Library of the US Department of Health, researchers are testing a new substance or treatment modality in a small group of people in this Phase I trial to determine its safety, effective dose, and potential side effects [2].

These studies on Sarm LGD-4033 found that humans can tolerate up to 22 milligrams per kilogram of body weight daily for two weeks without serious side effects. Furthermore, it was discovered that this substance increases the lean mass, reduces the body fat mass and leads to an increase in muscle strength and improves the subjective well-being [3]. Sarm LGD-4033 also appears to reduce bone resorption, which may be beneficial for individuals at increased risk for osteoporosis [3]. For these reasons, Sarm LGD-4033 could be a suitable SARM to aid phases of bulk building, dieting, recuperation, and strength building.

Sarm LGD-4033 also has a half-life of 24 to 36 hours, which is why a single daily intake seems sufficient [3]. You could take it as you like in the morning, in the evening or before training.

A study published in 2013 on 76 men aged 21 to 50 years administered low doses of LGD-4033 of only 0.1 milligrams, 0.3 milligrams or one milligram over the 21-day period [3]. The study participants were untrained and were not instructed to do strength training during the three-week study. However, before and after the study period, they should take a maximum strength test on the leg press to measure the increase in strength.

The researchers found that these levels resulted in a dose-dependent increase in muscle mass, while the blood levels of hemoglobin, prostate-specific antigen, aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase (liver values) remained unchanged. However, as the dosage increased, the levels of total testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin (SHGB), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL cholesterol), and triglycerides in the blood dropped. After discontinuation, however, the stated values ​​returned to their original state. [3]

Well, no human study has studied the impact of the doses recommended below, based on the experience reports. However, it is expected that Sarm LGD-4033 leads to a slight but significant suppression of the body’s own testosterone axis. Some anecdotal evidence suggests that a healthy man with a testosterone level of 650 nanograms per milliliter could drop to 450 nanograms per milliliter, which is still in the upper normal range. For safety, however, a short post-cycle therapy is often advised [1, 4]. As always, the higher the dosage, the stronger the side effects!

Incidentally, the participants in the study built 1.21 kilograms of pure muscle mass with just one milligram of Sarm LGD-4033 per day within the 21 days [3]. Mind you, these were untrained subjects!

Ingestion and dosage of Sarm LGD-4033

For men:

  • Generally: 10 to 20 milligrams, once a day for eight to twelve weeks
  • Mass buildup: Up to 20 milligrams, once a day for eight to twelve weeks
  • Clean mass build-up: 10 to 20 milligrams, once a day for six to twelve weeks
  • Diet: 10 to 20 milligrams, once a day for six to twelve weeks

For women:

  • 5 to 10 milligrams, once a day for six to twelve weeks

With its positive bone density properties, LGD-4033 may be of interest not only to strength athletes and bodybuilders but also to martial arts or extreme athletes eager to have the most resilient bones possible to prevent fractures.

Although this SARM appears to have no effect on the production of the female sex hormone estrogen, some users report increased water retention and associated high blood pressure. This phenomenon occurs especially at higher dosages and, as already suggested by Ostarin, may be related to the aldosterone receptor.

Similar to Ostarin, ligandrol could be of interest to steroid consumers who are between two cures and want to get as much muscle mass as possible. At lower doses of anabolic steroids, the SARM is partly used according to experience also accompanying the treatment in order to support muscle growth.

This makes Ligandrol behind Ostarin the SARM, which has advanced the furthest in the scientific investigation process. Nevertheless, a handful of human studies are still far from sufficient to allow a substance for safe use as a drug or dietary supplement. Given the current state of the pharmaceutical industry, it is unlikely that SARMs will achieve this status in the next few years. Therefore, the use of SARMs is and remains legally critical.
